Mitochondrial Research
The Mitochondrial Research & Innovation Group (MRIG)
is a growing multi-disciplinary research initiative at the University
of Rochester, supported by the Departments of Anesthesiology,
and Pharmacology & Physiology. Currently 12 NIH funded basic scientists and clinicians
investigate mitochondrial function/dysfunction at cell to whole organism
levels, using molecular, biochemical, genetic, and physiologic tools,
to explore a wide spectrum of diseases.
Research interests include signal transduction, cell-death, vascular
biology, neuropharmalogy, and ion-channel physiology. As part of this
ongoing initiative, we are seeking to recruit:
1) Director of Clinical Translational Research
2) Scientist, Open Rank
1) Director of Clinical Translational
Research. Ideally an anesthesiologist/intensivist (MD or
MD/PhD) who can act as a leader and catalyst in bringing together
clinicians and basic scientists. Experience in clinical research,
protocol development and implementation, regulatory approval and compliance,
statistical analysis, presentation, and publication is required. The
ability to communicate and implement the benefits of such studies
is mandatory. Hypotheses generated from both basic science and clinical
observations will be tested in selected patient populations in the
OR and ICU.
2) Scientist, Open Rank.
Will have a PhD or MD/PhD degree, postdoctoral training, and a
clear record of research productivity and creativity. Focus will be
on applicants who apply cutting-edge approaches to fundamental questions
in mitochondrial structure, function and dysfunction. The successful
candidate is expected to develop a dynamic and well-funded research
program and contribute to graduate and medical teaching programs.
Start up packages and compensation will be in accordance
with prior experience. Joint appointments in the Departments of Pharmacology & Physiology and Anesthesiology are possible. Rochester and its
surrounding region are recognized for high quality of life, including
5 of the top 100 ranked public high schools in the country.
