Clinical Services - HIV Neurology Clinic
The HIV Neurology Clinic (NeuroAIDS), located at Strong Memorial Hospital, provides clinical care to the HIV positive population with neurological complications of HIV infection. Currently, it is home to the only neurologists in upstate New York specializing in neurological complications of HIV and AIDS, such as:

AIDS-related neuropathy - occurs when the nervous system or nerves deteriorate.

AIDS-related dysautonomia - a disorder of the autonomic nervous system that causes disturbances in all or some autonomic functions, like the heart, blood vessels, muscles, stomach, and intestines.
- AIDS-related dementia - a condition characterized by a marked decline in the individual's intellectual level and often by emotional apathy.

The HIV Neurology Center
The Center works closely with the Infectious Disease Unit at Strong Memorial Hospital, Community Health Network in Rochester, and the Ivy Clinic, which serves the Southern Tier of New York.
Our neurologic specialist, Dr. Giovanni Schifitto, is an Associate Professor of Neurology. He is trained in Neurology and Experimental Therapeutics with a focus on HIV-associated neurological disorders.
Research
Dr. Schifitto has over 10 years of experience with studies
and clinical trials in HIV-associated cognitive impairment
and sensory neuropathy.
