Hemorrhagic infarcts, recent, cut surface: This is a section cut horizontally which means that frontal lobe tissue lies at the upper part of the photograph and posterior parietal at the bottom. There are three areas of interest. The first is a recent (days old) hemorrhagic infarct in the-mid portion of the lateral aspect of the left hemisphere where cortex and immediately adjacent subcortical white matter are discolored. The infarct does not involve the centrum semiovale. The second area is near the midline in frontal white matter where there is a small focus of recent hemorrhagic infarction. The third area is at the bottom of the photograph in the left posterior parietal region, where there is also a hemorrhagic infarct. This infarct has a granular appearance that indicates that it is a few weeks old.
