Ependymoma, microscopic: A histologic section of an ependymoma often contains rosettes, in which there is a circular arrangement of cells around a clear space. The processes of the cells in the rosette form a continuous internal limiting membrane around the enclosed space. In areas free of rosettes the tumor cells are relatively uniform, with dark-staining nuclei and poorly defined cytoplasmic processes.
