Meningioma, microscopic: Meningiomas arise from pia-arachnoid cells. A characteristic histologic pattern is whorl formation. Ultimately some whorls become hyalinized and calcified, forming bluish-black structures such as those on the left side of this photomicrograph. These are known as psammoma bodies. |
