Septicemia/meningitis, with edema: Not infrequently in the very early stages of acute, fulminating, suppurative meningitis the autopsy discloses relatively little exudate. Rather there is marked edema, often with uncal and/or cerebellar tonsillar herniation. The primary problem is septicemia with altered blood brain barrier rather than meningitis. |
