Rabies, inclusion bodies: A Purkinje neuron of cerebellar cortex containing multiple Negri bodies from a case of rabies. These inclusions are confined to the cytoplasm, are red to purple in color, variable in size, and in this stage have a suggestive granular appearance. In contrast to other forms of viral encephalitis, there usually is no significant microglial reaction, and there is a paucity of inflammatory cells. |
