Herpes simplex encephalitis: Another important viral infection in which inclusions are prominent is herpes simplex encephalitis. In this condition neurons, such as the one in the center of the field, contain large nuclear inclusion bodies surrounded by a halo with margination of nuclear chromatin. Note the large reactive astrocytes above and to the right of the nerve cell containing the inclusion body. |
