CT - Herpes simplex encephalitis: A 44 year old woman had a two day history of fever and confusion and was brought in by her husband to the Emergency Department. An emergent CT scan was obtained, with the left panel demonstrating a large area of hypodensity in the right temporal and right inferior frontal lobe, and minimally in the left temporal lobe prior to contrast administration. In the contrast enhanced scan in the right, scattered areas of mild enhancement are identified, especially along the sulcal margins. Her clinical course and imaging studies are consistent with herpes simplex encephalitis. |
