Contusion, recent, coronal section: In coronal sections the extent of the necrosis and hemorrhage in a contusion is more readily apparent. You will note in this slide that the injury is primarily superficial, the most severe destruction involving the outer portions of cerebral convolutions, with lesser damage to cortex in the depths of the sulci.
