Cerebellar atrophy in chronic alcoholism: Chronic alcoholics may also develop cerebellar cortical atrophy, earliest and most pronounced in the superior vermis as seen in this sagittal view. This is a result of loss of cerebellar cortical neurons and gliosis, and may contribute to the ataxia commonly seen in alcoholics. |
