Hydrocephalus: This specimen is an anterior coronal section through a hydrocephalic brain. Both lateral ventricles appear as one huge cavity due to rupture of the septum pellucidum; this is a common feature in obstructive hydrocephalus. Note the marked narrowing of white matter. Although convolutions are flattened, the cortex is usually not destroyed; most of the tissue loss is white matter loss.
