RESIDENCY PROGRAM
PROGRAM & RESIDENT EVALUATIONS
Each faculty member evaluates each resident rotating with his service at the end of the three-month rotation. The resident is evaluated on a variety of parameters including their clinical and basic science knowledge as well as their technical skills and professional demeanor.
In addition, every six months, each resident meets with the Chair, the Program Director and Associate Program Director and other full time faculty members as available for a discussion of 1) the resident's performance, and 2) the resident's feedback on the program. From that meeting, he receives a summation of the evaluation. This summation is co-signed by the resident and a copy is placed in the resident's Departmental file and a copy is sent to the Institution's Graduate Medical Education Office.
Because of the full time faculty to resident ratio, frequent feedback is provided to residents on a daily basis.
Every six months, each resident evaluates the individual faculty on their performance as an educator. This information is collated, thus providing anonymity for each resident. A summation of the evaluation is then passed on to each individual faculty member.
Neurosurgical conferences are designed to meet the requirements of the Medical Center's Continuing Medical Education Program under the guidelines of the ACGME. Thus, at each Neurosurgical Wednesday conference and Neuroradiology Conference on Thursdays, all in attendance complete an evaluation form. Thus each resident and each faculty member evaluates each conference. These forms and attendance are on file in the Departmental Office. In addition, the residents fill out the form every six months that evaluate the program with respect to the rotations.
