RESEARCH FACILITIES

The Frank P. Smith Neurosurgical Laboratory
The research activity of Dr. Berislav Zlokovic is located in the 2500 square foot state-of-the-art Frank P. Smith Neurovascular Biology Lab housed in the new medical research building. This laboratory offers training at multiple levels, from animal models, to human cellular and molecular studies of clinically and neurosurgically relevant research. This space serves as the nucleus for the research efforts of the PGY-V resident. Dr. Zlokovic is the Associate Chair for Research in the Department. Dr. Zlokovic and his co-researchers have over $4,000,000 in NIH funding.

Neuroanatomy Laboratory
Dr. Shirley Joseph has approximately 1000 square feet of laboratory space dedicated to neuroanatomic and histopathologic characterization of hippocampus microanatomy from surgical temporal lobe specimens. Dr. Joseph has had continuous NIH funding, currently a grant for $585,000.
