Project SEARCH Celebrates Launch, Rochester Expansion

A dozen 18- to 21-year-olds with developmental disabilities are in internships around the University of Rochester Medical Center, learning skills in office, clinical and customer service settings, thanks to a new program, Project SEARCH. And next fall, the program will expand to incorporate 12 more students from the Rochester City School District who will have internships in the City of Rochester government.

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) has awarded the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry $700,000 to support a new program to train graduate students for a biomedical research career in cardiovascular sciences with an emphasis on translating laboratory discoveries into treatments and diagnostics.

The University of Rochester Medical Center has announced the creation of a new center that will assist researchers studying the electrical activity of the heart with the goal of improving drug safety, understanding cardiac arrhythmias, and developing new electrocardiograph technologies. The Center for Quantitative Electrocardiology and Cardiac Safety – funded by a $2.3 million grant from the National Institutes of Health – brings together an international network of academic researchers, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, and government regulators.
