Study: Porches an Overlooked Lead Hazard »

A new study in the journal Environmental Health indicates that porches in older homes can be a significant source of lead dust and that housing regulations – which have been instrumental in lower rates of lead poisoning in recent years – need to be adapted to meet this threat to children’s health.
Lloyd Theiss has been named executive director of UR Medicine Thompson Health’s Ferris Hills and Clark Meadows, as well as The Highlands at Pittsford, both senior living communities providing a continuum of care.
UR Medicine cardiologists will encourage adults to “Love Your Heart” during American Heart Month and get free heart health checks on Tuesday, Feb. 10. The team is also offering a health talk Monday, Feb. 23, in Brockport.

The National Institutes of Health awarded $1.6 million to Rochester researchers to study a group of compounds derived from omega-3 fatty acids and their ability to combat inflammation caused by cigarette smoking, which can lead to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or COPD.
The Jan. 30 Battle of the Beaks basketball game between Nazareth College and St. John Fisher College kicks off a series of fundraising events put on by the East Avenue rivals in support of sick and injured kids at UR Medicine's Golisano Children's Hospital.
