There is perhaps no industry, no vocation that has a more profound impact on people’s lives than health care. Fresh insights from our laboratories and knowledge passed on by our faculty and staff are only valuable as they touch and improve the lives of those in our community. In the final analysis, it’s all about the patient.
In 2009, we made enormous strides toward our paramount clinical goal of boosting quality/safety/care by establishing a structure and accountability for continuous improvement. We also worked to broaden access, an intractable problem that has plagued local acute-care providers. And, facing the prospect of sweeping health care reform, we readied ourselves with fiscal discipline, by fast-tracking a switch to electronic medical records, and by testing new care delivery models. URMC’s patient care network faced formidable obstacles, but emerged more patient-focused, more efficient, more accessible, and better positioned for what lies ahead.
