May 08, 2001
A second-year University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry student has been awarded one of only 40 research fellowships from a national honor medical society. Shana Katzel, of Brighton, has been awarded a highly competitive Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) research fellowship.
AOA's mission is to advance the medical profession and the purpose of the fellowships is to stimulate interest in research among medical students. The program is designed to support students who have not had extensive research experience. Those awarded fellowships receive $3,000 to fund their project.
Katzel is a graduate of Brighton High School and Columbia University. She is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Lester Katzel, also of Brighton.
