Social Worker Honored for Work with Brain Tumor Patients
May 07, 2001
Barbara Guttman, C.S.W., was recently named Neuro-Oncology Social Worker of the Year by the National Brain Tumor Foundation and The Association of Oncology Social Work. She is an oncology social worker with the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center at the University of Rochester Medical Center.
She was recognized May 4th for her work with individuals with brain tumors and her efforts in establishing the Adult Brain Tumor Network at Strong Memorial Hospital.
The network offers educational and social opportunities for people who are undergoing or have completed treatment for primary malignant brain tumors. Guttman created the group after recognizing that peer support for brain tumor patients was lacking.
The group has approximately 25 members and meets monthly at the Cancer Center.
Guttman is a graduate of West Irondequoit High School and the University of Vermont, and earned a master's degree in social work from Syracuse University.
