Learning about various complementary and alternative healing methods to enhance the practice of medicine and personal health is the focus of this year's UR medical student Teaching Day.
Through hands-on, experiential workshops, students and faculty will have the opportunity to learn about various practices including Acupuncture, Rolfing, Reiki, Shamanism, Dreams/Stories, Massage, Qi Gong, and Healing Touch. The workshops will be led by Rochester-area traditional medicine practitioners, physicians, and nurse practitioners.
The evening will begin with keynote speaker Cecile Carson, M.D., clinical associate professor of medicine and psychiatry at the School of Medicine and Dentistry, who will discuss integrative approaches to healing in both traditional and alternative medicine. The evening will end with a group drumming experience led by David Weinberg, professional drummer and recording artist.
This year's medical student Teaching Day is hosted and presented by Medical Students for Wellness through the Integration of Science and Healing, the Models of Healing Task Force, the Program for Biopsychosocial Studies, and the Interclass Senate.
