Dr. David Herrmann Joins Department of Neurology at University of Rochester Medical Center

Brighton resident David N. Herrmann, M.D., has been appointed senior instructor in the Department of Neurology, Division of Neuromuscular Disorders, and the Department of Pathology, at the University of Rochester Medical Center.
Prior to his appointment, Herrmann was a fellow in neuromuscular disorders and electromyography at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Before that time, Herrmann was a visiting scientist in the Department of Neurology at Johns Hopkins University.
At the University of Rochester, Herrmann specializes in peripheral neuropathy. His practice predominantly includes assessment of neuromuscular disorders, by way of electromyography, and the evaluation and management of peripheral neuropathies. Herrmann has recently launched a clinical service, using a novel technique of skin biopsies, to diagnose peripheral neuropathies that may otherwise escape identification. His research focuses on the use of minimally invasive skin biopsies in the evaluation and investigation of sensory neuropathies.
Herrmann received his medical degree from the University of the Witwatersrand Medical School, Johannesburg, South Africa. He completed an internship and a residency in internal medicine at Mt. Sinai Medical Center, Cleveland, Ohio. He also completed a residency in neurology at the University of Michigan Medical Center, Ann Arbor. Herrmann is certified by the American Boards of Internal Medicine, Psychiatry and Neurology and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. He has co-authored several scientific journal articles and authored various scientific abstracts in his field.
