Dr. P-L Westesson Named Professor of Radiology at the University of Rochester Medical Center

Per-Lennart Westesson, M.D., Ph.D., D.D.S., has been appointed professor in the Department of Radiology at the University of Rochester Medical Center.

Prior to his new appointment, Westesson held joint appointments as professor in the Department of Clinical Dentistry and professor in the Department of Radiology at the Medical Center. In his new position, Westesson will be active in the neuroradiology section within the Department of Radiology, with responsibility for maxillofacial, head, neck, and spine studies. He will specialize in diagnostic and interventional images of the spine.

A native of Sweden, Westesson came to the University in 1989 as an associate professor of clinical dentistry and radiology, with a specialty in imaging and pathophysiology of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Subsequent appointments include senior research associate in the Department of Orthodontics at the Eastman Dental Center, research associate professor of Oral Medicine at SUNY Buffalo, associate professor in the Department of Orthodontics at the Eastman Dental Center, professor in the Department of Orthodontics, and adjunct professor in the Department of Oral Diagnostic Sciences at the School of Dental Medicine at SUNY Buffalo, an appointment he holds at the present time.

Westesson received his undergraduate degree, his D.D.S., and his Ph.D. from the University of Lund, Sweden. He received a specialist certificate in oral radiology from the Swedish National Board of Health in Stockholm, and he earned his medical degree at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.

The author and co-author of several books and book chapters, Westesson is listed in Who's Who in the World and Who's Who in Medicine. He holds memberships in several professional organizations, among them the American College of Radiology, the European Society for Head and Neck Radiology, the Scandinavian Society of Radiation Protection, the Radiologic Society of America, the Swedish Dental Association, and the International Association of Dento-Maxillo-Facial Radiology.
