Local Pediatrician Recognized for Abilities as Physician, Executive
May 15, 2002
The Certifying Commission in Medical Management recently designated Thomas K. McInerny, M.D., as a Certified Physician Executive. McInerny, a pediatrician, is associate chair for clinical affairs at Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong.
The Certifying Commission in Medical Management awarded McInerny the status of Certified Physician Executive for his educational achievements, demonstrated stature as a physician, and experience in the field of medical management. There are more than 300,000 medical doctors in the nation, but only about 500 have earned this special designation. The designation, used in signatory as CPE, indicates that a physician has achieved superior levels of professional excellence and management education, while also demonstrating effective knowledge and leadership skills.
Elizabeth McAnarney, M.D., pediatrician-in-chief at Golisano Children's Hospital, lauds McInerny, of Honeoye Falls, for his ability to serve as both a practicing pediatrician and a hospital administrator. Although he is a full-time administrator, he sees patients each Tuesday and Thursday at Panorama Pediatrics in Penfield.
"He is an outstanding administrator," McAnarney says. "He has great wisdom when it comes to delivering outstanding services to children."
The national certifying body for physicians specializing in medical management, the Certifying Commission in Medical Management is a not-for-profit corporation chartered by the American College of Physician Executives to establish and maintain the high standards required for physician executive certification. The American College of Physician Executives is the nation's largest organization of physicians in health care leadership. The American Medical Association recognizes the group as the specialty society representing physicians in management.
Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong is the only hospital in the Rochester and Finger Lakes region dedicated solely to the needs of children.
