University of Rochester School of Nursing Appoints Director of Center for Clinical Trials

Michael Ackerman has been appointed director of the University of Rochester School of Nursing Center for Clinical Trials and Medical Device Evaluation. The Center provides industry-sponsored studies for pharmaceutical investigations and evaluates patient care devices with an emphasis on critical care, nutritional support and pediatrics. These studies are funded by the National Institutes of Health as well as private foundations.
Ackerman, associate professor of clinical nursing, joined the School of Nursing in 1993. He recently received a grant to conduct a study on the incidence of resistant bacteria to certain antibiotics. Ackerman is also a critical care nurse practitioner in the cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit at Strong Memorial Hospital.
Ackerman, a registered nurse, earned a bachelor's degree in Nursing from Niagara University, a master's degree in Adult Health/Clinical Specialist and a doctorate in Nursing Science from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is a certified specialist in critical care and also received an honorary fellowship in critical care medicine from the American College of Critical Care Medicine.
