Dr. Irwin N. Frank Appointed President-Elect of American Urological Association

Irwin N. Frank, M.D., professor emeritus of urology at the University of Rochester Medical Center, has been appointed president-elect of the American Urological Association (AUA).
With over 13,000 members, the AUA is the largest urological organization in the world. Its mission is to promote the highest standards of urological clinical care through education, research, and in the formulation of health care policy.
Frank will assume the AUA presidency in May 2000 and will serve on its board as president-elect, president, and past president.
Frank has enjoyed a distinguished career that includes 38 years at the University of Rochester Medical Center, where he was chair of the Department of Urology, senior director and medical director of Strong Memorial Hospital, senior associate dean for clinical affairs at the School of Medicine and Dentistry, and professor of health services. He has authored or co-authored over 50 journal publications and numerous textbook chapters.
In addition to his involvement with the AUA, Frank currently serves on the executive committee of the Board of Commissioners of the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). A founding member and past president of the New York State Urological Society, Frank is also a past president of the Northeastern Section of the AUA. He is a member of several other medical societies and organizations as well.
Frank received his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, and completed an internship in surgery and a residency in urology at Strong Memorial Hospital. Prior to entering the University, Frank served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
