Strong Emergency Department Chair Named to National Post: Receives National Award

Sandra M. Schneider, M.D., professor and chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center's Strong Memorial Hospital, has been elected president of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM).
SAEM serves as the academic voice of emergency medicine and has nearly 5,000 members from medical schools and teaching institutions in the United States and worldwide. Schneider, who is the first woman to assume this post, will serve a two-year term beginning in May 1999.
In addition, Schneider has been selected Teacher of the Year from the American Association of Women Emergency Physicians. This award recognizes a woman in the field of emergency medicine who epitomizes excellence in teaching, as witnessed by both students and educators in the field. Schneider will receive the award at the association's meeting in May.
Schneider received both her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. She is a member of several national and international academic and professional organizations, and currently serves on a host of national and state medical committees. She has participated in numerous visiting lectureships and has co-authored several publications.
