University of Rochester School of Nursing Student Receives National Scholarship
January 15, 1997
Patricia Stone, a doctoral candidate at the University of Rochester's School of Nursing, is the recipient of the Liesel M. Hiemenz Memorial Scholarship award. The $4,500 scholarship recognizes Stone's academic achievements and her potential as a future leader of the nursing profession.
Stone is one of 16 masters and doctoral degree students nationwide who were awarded Nurses Educational Funds (NEF) awards in 1996. The NEF awards are presented to candidates who are deemed to have the highest potential for leadership in the field of nursing. Upon completion of her studies of both clinical and cost outcomes at a free standing nurse-run birth center, Stone plans to participate in the legislative process, do research, and teach, with a focus on the provision of cost-effective care.
Since its inception in 1911 as the Isabel Hampton Robb Memorial Scholarship Fund, NEF has given away more than $1 million to nurses who have gone on to become deans and directors, administrators, researchers, and leaders in the nursing profession. NEF is an independent, non-profit corporation which grants scholarships to registered nurses who are pursuing masters and doctoral degrees. Support is given by corporations, foundations, nurses, and other individuals interested in the advancement of nursing leadership.
