Dr. Erik S. Barquist Appointed Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry

Erik S. Barquist, M.D., has been appointed assistant professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery at the University of Rochester's School of Medicine and Dentistry.
Dr. Barquist specializes in both general surgery and trauma surgery, with special emphasis on surgical critical care. His research interests lie in the physiologic effects of trauma and resuscitation.
Dr. Barquist received his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco. He completed his surgical internship and residency at the University of California, Los Angeles. During that time, he completed a two-year research fellowship in gastrointestinal physiology at the Los Angeles-based Center for Ulcer Research and Education, and a registrarship at Queens Medical Centre in the United Kingdom. After completing his residency, Dr. Barquist served as a trauma/critical care fellow at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital.
He is board certified in general surgery with added qualifications in surgical critical care pending. Dr. Barquist is a member of the Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
