Otter Lodge Golf Tournament Benefits Golisano Children’s Hospital
June 07, 2006
"It's something that’s touched everyone locally, in one way or another. And really, how can you say no to the kids?"
Darren Cummings, owner of Otter Lodge restaurant and bar at 1776 Monroe Ave., knows the value of a reliable hospital first hand. His daughter Kaitlyn was transferred to Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong’s neonatal intensive care unit shortly after being born. She would spend three months there, rallying just to get better.
Kaitlyn, still fighting her battles on and off, is the reason Cummings’ 8th Annual Otter Lodge Golf Tournament, to be held Tuesday, July 18, will show strong support the children’s hospital and the family-friendly care provided there.
“It’s something that’s touched everyone locally, in one way or another,” Cummings said. “And really, how can you say no to the kids?”
The tournament costs $100 per person, and includes a wine and cheese kick-off party at Otter Lodge the evening before (Monday, July 17); the event is open to the public, and golfers are invited to bring dates. The tournament-day festivities include 18 holes of golf at Victor Hills, with lunch at the turn and plenty of complimentary beverages and opportunities for raffles while on the course. A buffet dinner will follow at Victor Hills, and a bar tab continues afterwards Otter Lodge for those that wish to keep on celebrating.
“This was initially my idea, but my wife, Erica, and I do everything together,” Cummings said. “So, when I told her we’d like to support the children’s hospital, she simply said ‘perfect.’”
