University of Rochester faculty will be featured in the second annual “Sunday Afternoon of Music,” a celebration to support the Medical Scholarship Fund of the Monroe County Medical Society on Sun., Oct. 29 at at the Rochester Academy of Medicine, 1441 East Avenue.
The recital features violinist Vincent F. Reale, M.D., and pianist Alexandra Nguyen, playing sonatas by Beethoven, Debussy and R. Strauss. Reale is a professor of surgery in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Nguyen is the assistant dean of Academic Affairs at the Eastman School of Music.
Reale began studying the violin at age 5. He spent a year between college and medical school at the JulliardSchool and has pursued his musical interests throughout his medical career. He returned to music studies at the EastmanSchool four years ago. Reale has performed professionally as a soloist and as a member of chamber music ensembles in Boston, Princeton, Baltimore, New York City and Rochester.
Nguyen is an accomplished pianist who has appeared throughout the U.S. and Canada. She holds a bachelor’s degree from McGillUniversity, a premier prix from the Conservatorie de musique du Quebec a Montreal, and graduate degrees from the Eastman School of Music.
