The University of Rochester’s School of Nursing’s Center for Nursing Entrepreneurship (formerly Community Nursing Center) will run a flu clinic from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. at the Medley Centre in Irondequoit, and for this clinic only, will make flu vaccinations available to children three and older. Typically, the Center’s clinics only vaccinated children nine and older. The clinic will be held on the first level by the Main Carousel entrance in the former Altier’s shoe store.

In addition, the Center for Nursing Entrepreneurship has set aside “drop in hours” at its Passport Health office to vaccinate children three and older next week.  The dates/times follow; for more information, call Passport Health at 275-8884.

  • Wednesday, Nov. 1, 3 -5:30 pm

Otherwise, there is a $30 fee for the vaccine. Center for Nursing Entrepreneurship clinics are for people nine years and older. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Background on Influenza
The flu, or influenza, is a respiratory illness that is easily spread from person to person. Symptoms include: fever, sore throat, muscle ache, chills and headache. Peak influenza activity usually occurs from late December through March. Each year, approximately 36,000 people die from flu or its complications and about 226,000 hospitalizations occur. A new flu shot is developed each year based upon the strains of flu expected to be circulating. In addition to getting a flu shot, health officials stress other preventive measures such as thorough and frequent hand washing and staying home if ill with respiratory symptoms, to prevent exposing others.
