Local Businesses Rally around Holiday Charity

November 21, 2006

"They may not believe in Santa anymore, but they’re just as excited about the gifts. Unfortunately, they’re all too often an overlooked age group this time of year."

Starting after Thanksgiving and running through Saturday, Dec. 16, you can spread a little extra cheer to patients at Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong. You’ll earn some special discounts, too.

Just bring in a new, unwrapped toy to one of two Fairport drop-off locations: Country Rode Motowerks, 286 Macedon Center Road or Casa Larga Vineyards and Winery, 2287 Turk Hill Road. Your generosity will be rewarded with coupons redeemable at select Rochester-area businesses (Mr. Shoe’s Eastside Café,  Higher Ground Cafe, Open Faced Sandwich Eatery, Casa Larga Vineyards and Winery and Country Rode Motowerks).

“On behalf of all the businesses involved, we’re pleased to be focusing on collecting special gifts for hospitalized teens this year,” said Ron Stone, sales manager at Country Rode Motowerks. “They may not believe in Santa anymore, but they’re just as excited about the gifts. Unfortunately, they’re all too often an overlooked age group this time of year.”

Suggested donations for teenagers include, but are not limited to: pocket and video games, playing cards, craft and jewelry kits, personal care items (nail polish, lip balm, lotion), Discman’s, Nerf balls, slipper socks, sports teams posters, watches, journal or scrapbooks, videos and DVDs.

Gifts should be new and, if possible, should consider the diversity of patients served at Golisano Children’s Hospital. Please do not gift wrap items. For more information on gift recommendations and guidelines, visit www.gchas.org. For other information about the toy drive, please contact Ron Stone of Country Rode Motowerks at (585) 421-0480, or Stacy Kurtz of Casa Larga Vineyards and Winery at (585) 223-4210, ext. 124.
