Spring Forward Distance Race Makes Strides for Golisano Children’s Hospital
February 28, 2007
"Our goal is to run with purpose, to run with the idea that we’re improving our own health and the children’s health at the same time."
Fleet Feet’s Spring Forward Distance Run, set for Sunday morning, April 1, at hilly Mendon Ponds Park, Mendon, will donate a portion of all entry fees to Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong.
The race is a 15K, or 9.3 miles, serves as a great tune up for late spring full or half marathons, and begins at 8:30 a.m. Race day registration starts at 7:30 a.m.; an awards presentation for the top three males and top three females in five age categories will follow at 10:30 a.m. All finishers will receive medals; post-race cuisine will be available for all participants.
Fleet Feet’s decision to donate a portion of the race proceeds is in part thanks to encouragement from runner Mike Hall, a special education teacher at Churchville-Chili Junior High whose grassroots campaign, Hope in Motion, aims to raise awareness of the children’s hospital in the racing community.
“Our goal is to run with purpose, to run with the idea that we’re improving our own health and the children’s health at the same time,” Hall said.
Those not keen on running but interested in other volunteer opportunities (e.g., road marshalling, water stops and finish line monitoring) can visit www.gchas.org for more information (look under “Events” for sign-up forms).
