8th annual ‘The Drive for Miracles’ Radiothon Airs June 21 to 24
June 14, 2007
Change Troopers -- good-will wardens that urge family and friends part with spare change -- are expected to contribute a sizeable amount to this year's radiothon total.
Listeners will hear stories of healing and hope that are sure to tug heartstrings when they tune in to the 8th annual Drive for Miracles radiothon, set to air on 100.5 The Drive, Thursday through Sunday, June 21 to 24.
The annual radiothon, which benefits Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong and typically broadcasts in mid-February, moved to June this year.
“We’ll be tapping into new and old listeners, plus it’s a super season for people to be active and on the go, enjoying the weather and driving around with the radio on,” said Betsy Findlay, the hospital’s Children’s Miracle Network coordinator. “Put that together with the Rochester’s bigheartedness and you can see why we’re braced for success.”
New to the radiothon this year is the energetic Haverly and Gately duo, The Drive’s on-air personalities best known for occasional verbal sparring and generally having a good time. The pair will bring true stories of trial and triumph from local families of patients at Golisano Children’s Hospital, live from the Strong Memorial Hospital lobby Thursday and Friday, 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., and from Eastview Mall Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., respectively. A bank of phones staffed by volunteers from area businesses and community organizations will be ready to help with pledges made by dialing 241-KIDS (5437), a special number only operational during radiothon hours.
Like last year’s event – which raised more than $222,000 for kids at the hospital – this year’s radiothon culminates with the Change Trooper competition, presenting prizes to good-will wardens that collected the most spare change from friends and family (to be added to the overall radiothon total).
