Summer Series Explores Community Health Issues

The University of Rochester Medical Center’s (URMC) Center for Community Health is launching Summer in the City, a noon-hour panel discussion series that will explore the challenges involved in working to improve some of our region’s toughest public health issues. Each week, URMC faculty and community partners will host a lively discussion on the barriers and challenges encountered while researching and implementing programs on a host of issues, from reducing teen pregnancy to improving HIV prevention strategies. 

Summer in the City is open to all University faculty, staff and students, and will be held for six consecutive Tuesdays, beginning July 10, from noon to 1 p.m., in the LeChase Assembly Hall (G-9576), with the exception of the July 17 discussion, which will be held in the Evarts Lounge in Helen Wood Hall. A light lunch will be served. 

July 10: Working Together to Reduce Teen Pregnancy – Metro Council for Teen Potential, YWCA Young Parents Support Services Program, Monroe County Department of Public Health, Pediatric Department

July 17: Rochester Children’s Zone - Mobilizing community for kids’ success – Children’s Zone residents, friends, and volunteers including the Center for Community Health  (Location:  Evarts Lounge in HWH)

July 24: Staying Alive and Moving Forward - Effective HIV prevention strategies – AIDS Community Health Center, Women's Prevention Program, MOCHA, Project YEAH, Black Men Latino Men Health Care Crisis, ABC, Collaborative Outreach Team, AIDS Rochester, School of Nursing, and HIV Clinical Trials

July 31: Equal Pain, Equal Gain - How Rochester is closing the immunization gap – Community child and adult immunization project partners, Department of Pediatrics, and Center for Community Health

August 7: Changing the Paradigm - Courts as centers for public health promotion – Monroe County Family Court and Department of Psychiatry         

August 14: Open Wide - Improving access to oral health – Community and Eastman Dental Center oral health access partners
