Rochester River Run/Walk 5K set for August 25
August 01, 2007
Individuals and teams are invited to participate in the sixth Friends of Strong Rochester River Run/Walk 5K, to be held Aug. 25 at Genesee Valley Park in Rochester. Pledges collected by participants who walk or run will benefit the Organ Transplant Program at Strong Memorial Hospital of the University of Rochester Medical Center.
In 2006, more than 300 patients received organ transplants at Strong, including heart, liver and kidney transplants. Many of these patients need assistance as they await their operations, as well as after transplant. And these numbers do not reflect the many transplant patients Strong has cared for over the past decade who continue to travel to Rochester for medical care related to their transplant.
The Rochester River Run/Walk 5K course is certified to be accurate by USATDF/RRTC and computerized racing results will be offered. A certified 1-mile course for walkers has been added for those who prefer a shorter distance.
The registration fee is $15 for pre-registered participants and $20 the day of the race. Registration will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. The event begins at 9 a.m. with runners, followed immediately by walkers. T-shirts will be given to all participants and prizes will be awarded to top finishers in numerous categories. Refreshments will follow.
