Toast to Your Health Wine Auction Nov. 16 Offers Finest Vintages in World
October 04, 2007
Wine connoisseurs may find their next favorite vintage at the University of Rochester Medical Center’s Toast to Your Health Fine Wine Auction Friday, Nov. 16. Wegmans Food Markets is the presenting sponsor, providing the Wegmans Conference Facility as the backdrop for the black-tie affair benefiting the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center this year.
The seventh-annual event begins with an exquisite wine tasting that is sure to please even the most celebrated palates. Organizers will uncork more than 200 vintages from around the world, including select wines from France’s Bordeaux and Burgundy regions, and California’s Napa and Sonoma regions, as well as the Finger Lakes wineries. The event has grown dramatically and now attracts vintners, including Rob Fisher from the popular Fisher Vineyards of Napa Valley.
“This is the premier wine event for Upstate New York, and we expect this year to be bigger than ever,” said Rolla Huff, chair. “It’s a great evening to enjoy exclusive wines, bid on fantastic packages and support the Wilmot Cancer Center’s programs.”
Guests will indulge in gourmet cuisine prepared by Wegmans’ premier culinary team with each course carefully paired with extraordinary wines.
A highlight of the evening will be the live a uction with famed charity auctioneer David Reynolds. Bidders will battle for rare vintages, unique dinner experiences with winemakers, luxurious gifts, vacations, fashion week excursions to New York City, and an once-in-a-lifetime trip to France’s exclusive vineyards. Reynolds is known for spontaneity and boundless energy that is contagious -- he once sold two pizzas for $8,000!
Last year’s event exceeded expectations by raising more than $500,000 with over 350 attendees. Poised for another record-breaking year, wine auction organizers hope to surpass last year’s total to continue its support of programs throughout Strong Memorial Hospital and the University of Rochester Medical Center.
For the second year in a row, proceeds from the auction will benefit the Wilmot Cancer Center and support expansion of programs and construction of a new facility. A new 165,000-square-foot building is expected to open in a year to accommodate the growing research and clinical programs. Leaders are in the midst of a $42.5 million campaign to fund this endeavor. So far $32 million has been raised.
Tickets to the wine auction are $250 and the event will sell out. There are many sponsorship opportunities available and wine donations are sought. For more information, please contact Calista Amering at (585) 276-3715 or email@example.com.
