October 10, 2007

Fickle 93.3 Random Radio will broadcast live in the lobby of Strong Memorial Hospital from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, Oct. 12, to raise awareness about breast cancer and support the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center at the University of Rochester Medical Center.

The Wilmot Cancer Center’s Multidisciplinary Breast Cancer Program doctors will be featured and Wilmot Development staff will sell pizza and soda during the broadcast.

The radio station is focusing on breast cancer and encouraging women to get mammograms, as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is in October.

“Unfortunately breast cancer affects thousands of families every year,” said Marti Casper, morning show co-host with George “Ace” Acevedo. “We want to educate all women about this disease and help the Wilmot Cancer Center provide the best care for all who have breast cancer.”

Each year, more than 200,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer. When breast cancer is found early, the chances for successful treatment are greater. There are several techniques for finding breast cancer – a clinical breast exam by a doctor or nurse, self-breast examination, and mammography.

Fickle, a part of the Entercom Marketing Results Group, which has is a strong supporter of Wilmot Cancer Center’s expansion of cancer care and research.

The Wilmot Cancer Center is the leader for cancer care and research in Upstate New York.  Leaders are planning to expand cancer care and research programs, and to construct a new facility and are raising $42.5 million to fund the project.
