A family dedicated to supporting cancer research at the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center will hold the Passion for Life…Passion for a Cure Gala Saturday, July 26, at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center. The event will honor the memory of Barbara Caruso Fogarty.
The evening begins at 6 p.m. with cocktails, followed by dinner, dancing to Brass Taxi, and auctions for premium items donated by Mann’s Jewelers, Stickley Furniture and Ramon Santiago Studios. Vocalist Timothy Mitchum, a Rochester native who recently performed at the Grammy Awards, will perform during the program.
Throughout the evening, organizers will share the Fogarty’s story of lung cancer diagnosis and her care by Paul Okunieff, M.D., chair of Radiation Oncology at the Wilmot Cancer Center. Okunieff is an internationally recognized leader in the field of therapeutic radiation, leading research to expand the use of radiation therapy to previously untreatable tumors.
“This man is so talented and he works so hard to help people. This man has a passion to help people live longer with cancer and if he can turn cancer into a chronic disease, he will do it. If he could find a cure for cancer along the way, I believe he would do it,” said Carl Fogarty, who is organizing the event with his children to honor his wife.
Okunieff’s expertise and passion impressed the family during Fogarty’s care, which is why they are raising funds to support his research into better treatments and cures for tomorrow. Proceeds will support the Robert J. Flavin Shaped Beam Center at the Wilmot Cancer Center.
WHAM Radio host Chet Walker will serve as master of ceremonies.
Tickets to the black-tie optional event are $125 and available by contacting Lauren Fogarty at 585-727-3877 or Carl Fogarty at 315-575-4146, or go to www.passionforlifegala.com.
