Rochester River Run/Walk 5K set for August 16
Fundraiser benefits Strong Memorial Hospital’s Organ Transplant Program
August 05, 2008
Individuals and teams are invited to participate in the seventh annual Friends of Strong Rochester River Run/Walk 5K, to be held Saturday, Aug. 16, at Genesee Valley Park’s Genesee Junction Pavilion. Pledges collected by participants who walk or run will benefit the Organ Transplant Program at Strong Memorial Hospital of the University of Rochester Medical Center.
Hundreds of patients receive organ transplants each year at Strong Memorial, including heart, liver and kidney transplants. Many of these patients need assistance as they await their operations, as well as after transplant. And these numbers do not reflect the many transplant patients Strong has cared for over the past decade who continue to travel to Rochester for medical care related to their transplant. Money raised through the Rochester River Run will help patients who need emergency financial assistance. More than $35,000 has been raised since the event was started in 2002.
The Rochester River Run/Walk 5K course is certified to be accurate by USATDF/RRTC and computerized racing results will be offered.
The registration fee is $15 for pre-registered participants and $20 the day of the race. Registration will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. The event begins at 9 a.m. with runners, followed immediately by walkers. T-shirts will be given to all participants and prizes will be awarded to the top two participants who collect the most pledges. Refreshments will follow the race.
