Inspirational Leukemia Survivor to be Honored by Wilmot Cancer Center

The Wilmot Cancer Center will honor Jennifer Miller and celebrate cancer survival during the 10th annual Discovery Ball
The James P. Wilmot Cancer Center will celebrate survivorship during the 10th annual Discovery Ball Saturday, April 18, at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center. The center will honor Jennifer Miller and share her uplifting story of courage, determination and leukemia survival.
Miller was diagnosed with leukemia while pregnant with her first child. The Fairport resident received life-saving treatment at the Wilmot Cancer Center and University of Rochester Medical Center and was able to welcome a healthy boy into her family. She faced many unexpected challenges during her leukemia treatment -- including the replacement of her hip and shoulder joints -- with a strength and grace that inspired other patients and her care team at the Wilmot Cancer Center.
She will receive the Wilmot Cancer Center’s highest honor, the Inspiration Award, for providing hope to people with cancer. Previous honorees include Syracuse University basketball coach Jim Boeheim, advocate Judy von Bucher of Brighton, former Xerox CEO David Kearns, and the late Michael Fennell, a former New York Yankee and McQuaid baseball coach.
The award is presented at the Discovery Ball, the premier gala in Rochester. Kim and Steve McCluski, longtime supporters of the Wilmot Cancer Center, are chairs for this year’s event, which will be attended by 850 people.
The elegant, black-tie evening begins with cocktails followed by a four-course meal and dancing to Swing Shift. The University of Rochester YellowJackets will perform as well.
