BBQ Competition Heats Up at 2nd Annual Roc City Rib Fest

Roc City Rib Fest is bringing out the finest in the field of barbeque for this one-of-a-kind event. The smoking hot competition will be open to the public 10 a.m to 10 p.m. Saturday, May 23, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 24, at Ontario Beach Park.

“We’re really happy that even with this economy, we can hold an affordable event that’s fun for the whole family,” said Todd Krupa, one of the event’s co-organizers.

In its second year, the festival is already gaining steam, having received a proclamation from Governor David Paterson that certifies the rib fest as a New York State Championship barbeque contest. The fest has also been declared the first Kansas City Barbeque Society-sanctioned barbeque competition in Rochester history. The state championship cook-off promises to be fierce, since the winner will qualify for the Jack Daniels BBQ Contest, considered the world championship of barbeque.

Attendees can get their fill of barbequed goodness with nearly a dozen food vendors. All of the vendors will have a three-bone teaser for $5 as well as other menu items. Local bands are set to play throughout Saturday and Sunday and a 3-in-1 combination bounce house, rock climbing wall, and slide will be set up to entertain kids in addition to other children’s activities.

This family-friendly event is the perfect way to spend Memorial Day Weekend. The entry fee is $5 and children under 12 get in free.
