September 29, 2009
Former Penfield resident Andrew M. Wensel, M.D., has joined the University of Rochester Medical Center as an assistant professor of Neurosurgery, expanding the faculty ranks of the department to 11.
“We are happy to have Dr. Wensel join our department,” said Webster H. Pilcher, chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at URMC. “His passion for his patients and dedicated work ethic made it clear that he would be a perfect fit for our growing practice.”
Wensel’s interests include skull-base surgery, complex spine, and deep brain stimulation. He earned his M.D. from Case Western Reserve University, before returning to Rochester to complete his eight-year residency in neurosurgery. A member of several professional organizations including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, Wensel is published on many topics including treatment of aneurysms, and neurocritical care of intracerebral hemorrhage and stroke.
Wensel will provide neurosurgical care primarily at Rochester General Hospital as part of Rochester Neurosurgery Partners, a community-wide collaboration among neurosurgeons to provide care at each of Rochester’s four hospitals.
