Open House Introduces New Master’s Option for Health Care Leaders
April 15, 2010
The University of Rochester School of Nursing will host an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, April 26, for those interested in pursuing a master’s degree that focuses on managing and leading change in health care.
Open to anyone with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, including professionals transitioning into health care as a second career, the master’s in Leadership in Health Care Systems–Organization Management and Leadership track was developed with the national health care agenda in mind. This interprofessional program will enable both clinical and non-clinical students to expand their competence in organizational stewardship and transformational leadership, providing a strong foundation for those interested in participating in the evolution of health care.
Interdisciplinary education and learning experiences are emphasized and program faculty hail from diverse disciplines. Values-based leadership is integrated into the curriculum to ensure that graduates are fully prepared to lead. “We want to populate regional health care with people who make decisions that are value-driven,” said Lisa Norsen, PhD, RN, ACNP, director of the School of Nursing’s master’s programs. “Certainly we want them to have business acumen. But we are in the business of taking care of people and we will teach the ethics framework for that.”
The program can be completed in 16 months (January to May) taking two courses each semester. Flexible, part-time options also are available. An executive learning format means that all classes occur on Fridays.
Those interested in learning more can drop in to the informational open house between 4 and 6 p.m. Monday, April 26, in conference room ACF-A (Rm 2-1322) at the University of Rochester Medical Center.
