Geneseo Walmart managers pucker up for a good cause

June 15, 2010

Walmart managers at Supercenter Store #1966 in Geneseo have agreed to kiss a pig if the store raises $1,000 for Golisano Children’s Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center by Friday, June 18. The enticing incentive has associates well on their way to meeting the set goal and managers are preparing to pucker up at 10 a.m. Friday, at their store, located at 4235 Veterans Drive.

The challenge is part of a seven-week fundraising campaign Walmart is participating in as a Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) sponsor. During the campaign, Walmart’s goal is to raise $15 million for children’s hospitals nationally. The 13 Finger Lakes-area Walmart stores and two Sam’s Club stores are working hard to reach their goal of raising $75,000 for Golisano Children’s Hospital.

“Walmart is Golisano Children’s Hospital’s biggest fundraising group and one of our most avid supporters,” said Betsy Findlay, director of the Office of Advancement at Golisano Children’s Hospital. “It’s wonderful to see the associates get so excited to help.”

Managers at the Walmart’s store in Geneseo, which has raised more than $8,000 for Golisano Children’s Hospital so far, put this “pig-kissing” challenge together to add excitement to the last week of their fundraising campaign. Associates are working hard to reach their $1,000 goal and the payoff of seeing their managers kissing a pig, led by store manager Sam Fichera, will be well worth the effort.

Local Walmart and Sam’s Club stores have received the 2010 Miracle Maker Award for Outstanding Commitment by a CMN Sponsor by Golisano Children’s Hospital for their dedicated and ambitious fundraising efforts. CMN is an international non-profit organization dedicated to helping children by raising funds and awareness for 170 children's hospitals throughout North America, including Golisano Children’s Hospital.
