Eat Your Heart out this Memorial Day at the Roc City Rib Fest

Four-day barbeque event at Ontario Beach Park to benefit Golisano Children’s Hospital

May 13, 2011

What would Memorial Day be without food that’s finger-licking good? The fourth annual Roc City Rib Fest, which gets bigger and better every year, will serve up the best barbeque in town during the Memorial Day holiday weekend to benefit several local charities, including Golisano Children’s Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center. The event will run from Friday, May 27, through Monday, May 30, at Ontario Beach Park.

“Each year has been better than the last, with more vendors, more competitors, more entertainment and of course, more delicious barbeque,” said Brian Wemett, one of the event organizers. "We are so proud to bring this great event to the region and would like to thank the community, and our partners and sponsors in supporting this great charitable event."

Competitors interested in showing off their rib-cooking skills can compete at many levels. Experienced barbeque cooks can compete in the Kansas City Barbeque Society State Championship or the New England Barbeque Society Grilling Competition. Local competitors can register for the Roc City Rib Cook-Off. More than $20,000 in prize money will be given away during the festival.

Kids can compete too with a new addition to the festival this year, a Kids Q competition available to kid chefs 12-years-old and younger. Barbeque 101 classes will be offered for those who would like to learn their way around a grill from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, May 27. Details on registering for the competitions and classes are available at http://roccityribfest.com/competition/.

The four-day event offers fun for the whole family. The Rib Fest will be jam-packed with live entertainment from local and regional favorites and a YMCA Kids Zone will be open for the kids to enjoy. Attendees pay $5 at the door and the price of food or beverages. Children 12-years-old and younger get in free. For more information, please visit http://roccityribfest.com/.
