September Ground-Breaking Planned for Cottage Homes

July 18, 2003

The Highlands at Pittsford, a continuing care retirement community affiliated with Strong Health, will break ground in September for 36 cottage homes to complement its comprehensive senior living facilities.

The Highlands recently gained approval from the Village of Pittsford to rezone 15 of its 52 acres to accommodate cottage homes designed for comfortable retirement living.  The two-bedroom cottages will range from 1,551 to 1,735 square feet and include two full bathrooms, walk-in closets, kitchens with large pantries and breakfast nooks, dining rooms, porches and bay windows.  Residents can customize their cottages with options like fireplaces, additional rooms, patios and designer colors.

“The cottages provide an additional option for area seniors who are looking for a high quality cottage home in a great location, with all the necessary amenities on one campus,” says Mike Bierley, vice president, senior services for Strong Health.  “This is the first of several innovations in senior housing to be offered by the Highlands.”

Residents will begin moving in to the cottages as early as spring of 2004.  For a limited time, a discount of $30,000 is being offered on some cottages.  For information please call 586-7600.

The Highlands at Pittsford is a not-for-profit community accredited by the Continuing Care Accreditation Commission (CCAC), a designation awarded to less than three percent of the nation’s continuing care communities who meet the commission’s high standards.  Its campus, located just outside the Village of Pittsford on Hahnemann Trail off Route 31, currently includes 135 independent living apartments, 60 enriched living apartments, a 122-bed skilled nursing facility, physicians’ offices and a fitness center.
