Ob/Gyn Chair Cited with Lifetime Achievement Award

James R. Woods Jr., M.D., received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual meeting of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) District II Oct. 21 in New York City.
Woods, the Henry A. Thiede Professor and chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Rochester Medical Center, was recognized for his “tireless dedication to ACOG activities and ongoing commitment to women’s health care.” ACOG previously recognized Woods with an award for Outstanding District Service to District II in 2010.
Woods is a pioneer in using multimedia resources and simulation technology to improve communication among care providers to benefit patient safety. He is founder and senior editor of Peri-FACTS, an online multimedia journal on critical issues in obstetrics and gynecology that is used by 70 hospitals across New York state, 600 hospitals nationally, and 230 nursing schools. Peri-FACTS has 30,000 students and subscribers around the world.
After 11 years of distinguished service as chair of Ob/Gyn, Woods will complete his final term on June 30, 2013, to focus more closely on clinical practice, expansion of the Peri-FACTS Academy, as well as outreach to under-served women, through programs such as the URMC Women’s Health Center at Lattimore and the annual Women’s Health Screening Fair at the Rochester Public Market. He will remain as a tenured member of the faculty, contributing to department and Medical Center-wide initiatives.
