"Drive for Miracles" Radiothon to Touch Many Hearts
February 11, 2014
Courageous stories of hope and healing will be broadcast through air waves and into homes from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the annual "Drive for Miracles" Radiothon, Feb. 13 and 14. Over the two-day event, 100.5 The Drive, 13WHAM-TV and WHAM 1180 will team up to talk with Golisano Children’s Hospital patients, families, physicians, nurses, and more, sharing heart-wrenching – and –warming – experiences and hopes for the future children’s hospital building. Last year’s phones rang off the hook, with calls of generous support from area businesses and community members, raising $224,000, a record-breaking total.
In addition to listening to the dedicated radio hosts, children’s hospital supporters can also tune in to 13WHAM-TV on Friday, Feb. 14, for a special broadcast honoring 2012 Miracle Kid “Amazing Grace” Esposito. Viewers can catch 13WHAM’s Radiothon coverage from 5 to 9 a.m., 12 to 12:30 p.m. and again from 5 to 6:30 p.m. For a portion of the telecast, avid children’s hospital supporter Jennifer Johnson will share her daughter Grace’s brave story and the plans to honor her memory in the new Golisano Children’s Hospital building. Read more in Jennifer’s recent blog post about the inspirational $350,000 commitment she and the 13WHAM team have made, including a special healing garden in remembrance of Grace.
The Children's Miracle Network Hospital's Drive for Miracles Radiothon would not be an annual success without support from the Rochester community. Volunteers from Tops Friendly Markets, Abbott’s Frozen Custard, Walmart, the University of Rochester’s Men’s and Women’s Tennis team, Frontier Abstract, the Amerks, and RE/MAX Plus – just to name a few – will take calls from donors for a number of hours throughout each day. In addition to manning the phones, a number of organizations also sponsor Radiothon, often matching amounts called-in by generous donors.
Our community’s hard work and dedication to the children’s hospital continues to make miracles happen. To donate during the Radiothon, please call (585) 241-KIDS (5437), or give online now!
