"Christine is the right choice to fill this pivotal position."
Christine Burke, J.D., has been promoted to the position of general counsel to the University of Rochester Medical Center, providing advice to administrators, faculty, and staff on a wide range of legal issues, and managing both in-house attorneys and outside counsel.
Burke has been a member of the Medical Center’s legal team since 1989. Prior to joining the University of Rochester, she served as first deputy county attorney with the Monroe County Attorney’s Office.
An undergraduate of Denison University, Burke received her Juris Doctor degree from New York Law School. Her areas of professional expertise extend from contract and business negotiation, health care issues, and higher education issues, to legal issues related to scientific research, and regulatory compliance.
“Christine is the right choice to fill this pivotal position,” said Peter G. Robinson, chief operating officer of the University of Rochester Medical Center. “During her tenure here she has earned the respect and confidence of leadership and faculty, as well as our legal team.”
“Christine brings a great deal of experience together with sound and practical judgment to her position as the primary counselor to the University of Rochester Medical Center,” said Sue S. Stewart, Vice President and General Counsel to the University of Rochester. She added that she and Mrs. Burke worked closely together and she is impressed with the quality of the legal counsel provided by the internal Medical Center legal staff.
Burke has given dozens of lectures and presentations on topics of interest to health care professionals.
